The QUT School of Justice is seeking the submission of abstracts for the forthcoming Crime, Law and Society Postgraduate Research Conference, to be held at Queensland University of Technology Gardens Point Campus, Brisbane, on the 23rd of November 2007.  Higher Degree Research students of criminology, criminal justice, socio-legal studies and related fields are invited to submit abstracts to present at this conference.

The aims of the conference are to provide Higher Degree Research students:

  • an avenue in which to present their research in progress;
  • the opportunity to network with other Higher Degree Research students working within similar areas of intellectual endeavour
  • the experience of presenting research findings in a collegial atmosphere to an audience of peers and senior academics in the discipline area;
  • the opportunity to learn from Early Career Researchers about the successful completion of higher degree research, career development, and practical steps to achieving professional goals;
  • the opportunity to receive feedback on their research; and
  • the opportunity to gain a refereed conference publication.

The conference will allow students the opportunity to present their research in the form of either a full presentation or a work-in-progressFull presentations will be 20 minutes in length with 10 minutes of questions, while work-in-progress presentations will be 15 minutes in length with 10 minutes of questions.  Honours students completing their research and Higher Degree Research students in the early stages of their candidature are strongly encouraged to present their work-in-progress.

Students giving full presentations will have the option to submit a paper for inclusion in a refereed conference proceeding with an independent editorial board.  This will occur after the conference, giving authors time to incorporate any feedback they receive.  Please note that this option is only available to those students who deliver a full presentation, and is not obligatory.

Submitting an Abstract

Presentations will be selected on the basis of an abstract of no more than 200 words in the form of a Word document.  Additionally, three (3) keywords, the author’s full contact details and institutional affiliation are to be provided.  Abstracts should be submitted by email to Ms Denise Foster, d2.foster@qut.edu.au by no later than the 26th of October 2007.
