The aim of this program is to pursue multi-disciplinary research on the impact of technology on legal frameworks for commerce and government information. The program has a linkage with the Faculties of Business and IT through the Information Security Institute (ISI) and is engaged in research projects within the ISI in the areas of protection of personal information held electronically, e-transactions for business and government, legal and security frameworks for government information, e-courts and e-litigation, fraud and identity theft in electronic systems, critical infrastructure protection, information security and national security.
The increasing global impact of the internet on the operation of business and commerce, the changing methods of communication and the growing need to develop new ways of protecting both private and sensitive information has created a demand for multi-disciplinary research across these areas. The program is already engaged in four major funded projects:
- Secure E-contracting for the Construction Industry funded by the Cooperative Research Centre for Construction Innovation;
- Geo-spatial Information Systems for Government with the Information Security Institute funded by the CRC for Smart Internet Technology;
- The Use of Information and Cryptographic Technology to Restrict Competition funded by the Australian Research Council for 2 years from 2006
- Technical and Legal Models for Virtual Info‑Sharing Networks (VISN) for Critical Infrastructure Protection funded by the Australian Research Council for 3 years from 2007;
